Beijing Olympics are causing a craze… literally

A few weeks ago I read an article about a 10-year old Chinese girl who, in an effort to help achieve her dream of swimming across the English Channel, swam in a river for 3 hours… with her hands and feet tied. Apparently the water in the river was so cold, that the girl’s face turned blue. In the summer, an 8-year old girl ran 2,212 miles from Hainan to Beijing in 55 days. The entire time she had her father trailing right behind her… in a scooter. Some are saying that these stunts are taking place because the Beijing Olympics are less than a year away.

Personally, I don’t really see anything wrong with either of these two instances. I find both of these children to be a huge inspiration, and their stories should be told to our fat-ass American children who are too busy scarfing down their McDonald’s happy measl and playing video games. All you hear about in American news is children getting abducted, murdered, sexually assaulted, or shooting up their schools.

So at first you may say to yourself, “What kind of parents would allow their children to a) swim in frigid waters with their hands and feet tied or b) run over 2,000 miles?”

The swimmer’s father had this to say, “It’s not dangerous because, first, her swimming skills are really good and second, I was swimming with her, staying close to her… I had her when I was 35, so she is my heart. I would never play around with her life.

I commend these two brave children AND their parents. Americans, take note.
